Wilco, Buddy Guy, Al Green Among Artists To Perform At Tall Stacks Festival Monday, July 10, 2006
With the announcement of this year’s music lineup, the Tall Stacks Music, Arts & Heritage Festival is living up to its reputation as one of the best music festivals in the Midwest with a diverse roster that combines living legends, fan favorites and master musicians. Boasting close to 70 Grammy wins and more than 125 Grammy nominations among them, the 41 national headliners are among the most influential musicians in American roots music.
Among the roster of recording artists who have signed on to perform in Cincinnati during the October 4-8 festival are critically-acclaimed alt-rockers Wilco; R&B great Al Green; New Orleans Cajun and blues favorites Dr. John, Marcia Ball and BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet; bluegrass giants Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder; blues legends Buddy Guy and Bettye LaVette; singer-songwriters John Hiatt and Loudon Wainwright III; and the venerable Blind Boys of Alabama. About two dozen of Cincinnati’s hottest local bands and performers will also play.
“This is a music festival for music lovers,” said Tall Stacks Executive Director Mike Smith. “These artists are the pillars of roots and Americana music. Whether it’s the legends, who have enjoyed careers that span three and four decades, or the critically acclaimed up-and-comers, all of these artists are among the best in their genres.”
“It’s an outrageous bargain, and we’re confident you won’t find a lineup this diverse and this high-quality for this kind of money anywhere else is the country,” said Smith, a veteran of the music industry. “Tall Stacks is all about connecting people with the river and music is an integral part of our
river heritage. We make it affordable because we want to make it easy for people to connect with our region’s history through music. They may come for the Bluegrass or heartland rock, but stick around for the rockabilly, blues or jazz artists and discover a whole new world of music.”
Set to the backdrop of the world’s largest gathering of riverboats, the Tall Stacks music festival is one of a kind. The music festival was added to the event in 2003 and was deemed an unparalleled success by critics, fans and musicians alike. More than 900,000 people enjoyed the concerts, riverboat cruises and heritage exhibits during the five-day festival. The 2006 festival is much-anticipated with more than 1 million people expected to attend.
Musical acts will perform on three main stages at the riverfront venue nightly. An additional stage – a new addition called the “Starbucks Emerging Artists Stage” will host up-and-coming local acts daily. Additional acts will be announced as they sign on.
