I haven't visited this board or posted in a long time but I thought I'd drop by to share an old photo of Al that I found on the internet.  It's new to me.

This 1972 photo is by Bud Lee and apparently it was one of the pictures that was intended to be used for the cover of Al’s Let’s Stay Together album.  (Can somebody confirm this?)

** I removed the photo as it has offended a member of this Message Board.  Apologies. **

I'm having a major Al attack these days, so it's good to be among people who understand me...

I came across this picture a few months ago. I feel it captures the essence and vulnerability of Al.  It is a beautiful picture.

I agree, Melody.  This photo makes me want to give him a big hug and say "Everything is going to be alright, Al"...  It is indeed a beautiful picture.  Smiley

Hello Mimi and Fans,

As a photography buff, Bud Lee remains one of my all time favorites.  That he took many photos of Al Green is just too wonderful, and this one is a great favorite of mine.  As I understand it, this photo of Al, taken in the cotton fields near his home town, was intended for the cover of an album.  It is also my understanding that the record company thought that it might be considered too wild, even for the times.  My own opinion is that it is a simply stunning and beautiful portrait that captures young Al in his element.  You probably have appreciated more of Bud Lee's photos of Al on the front and back covers of the "Let's Stay Together" album.

You will be able to see a better copy of this photo, and other celebrity photos at Bud Lee's web page: http://budleepicturemaker.com/main.htm
Click on "pictures", then "celebrities", then "view pictures".  The photo of Al is number 3.

Bud Lee's photos are available for purchase through The Serge Group.  You can buy a print, or a print signed by Bud Lee.  The last I heard, Bud was in a nursing home in Florida, having suffered a stroke.  I have been trying to encourage the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN to hold an exhibit of Bud's work.
