I Can't Stop is the first
secular album that Al Green has recorded with Willie Mitchell
since 1976's Have a Good Time. That album came on the
arc of several recordings that, to this day, remain among the
most beloved in soul music, including: Tired of Being Alone
(1971), Let's Stay Together (1971), I'm Still in
Love With You (1972), Love and Happiness (1972), Call
Me (1973), Here I am (1973) and many others.
In the intervening years, Green has
largely turned his talents to gospel music, founding a church
in Memphis - the Full Gospel Tabernacle, where he still
preaches regularly - and recording a series of albums that
have earned the singer eight Grammys in gospel categories.
