Praise Part 2
Call
Me
"There, it was settled. A calm settled over Al. He accepted his calling to lift his voice in praise unto God. Each note, each rest, each measure must be uplifting, lifting higher. For anyone else such a conversion may have been difficult, but in a way it was just the final sign for which Al had been preparing. Al had been "born again" in 1973 and had increasingly felt the strong pull of religious life, so much so that by 1976 he was a fully-ordained minister and had purchased the Full Gospel Tabernacle in the Whitehaven community in Memphis where he ministered and preached and prayed with his congregation. The church became his principal vocation. It was only in the studio during this "crossover" era that Reverend Al continued to sing secular songs -- those days were about to come to a close.
